What can you say about Malta? Everything in Malta just screams beauty. With their rich history, beautiful beaches, amazing cities... this country is pure beauty. What better backdrop for your honeymoon?? I recommend the Hotel Phoenicia in Valletta. It is near the beach and overlooks the harbour. It provides 5 star accommodations and the the scenery of the terraced gardens around the hotel makes this romantic hotel a wonderful place to spend your honeymoon.
Brilliant location This is a beautiful old hotel located yards away from the city entrance and next to the bus station. It is as nice to look at outside as well as in. The rooms are average with small balconies. Bathrooms have large baths with lashings of hot water and enormous old white fittings! These were well cleaned and tidied daily for us. There are two restaurants and we received good service. There is a nice old bar serving drinks. Breakfast is served in a large old dining room overlooking the garden and there is a very large selection of hot and cold foods. Despite our window being virtually over the bus station we were not disturbed. Activity seems to start at about 9am and this was not too loud through closed windows anyway. We enjoyed watching the crowds of people and the retro buses driving round the fountain. There is a pool within the grounds a 5 minute walk from the building! This initially put us off however you get used to it & so long as you take all your bits there is no problem. Towels are provided and there is a bar toilet and a beautiful view of the harbour. The bar also served. During our stay it always got windy in the afternoon and also slightly cooler. Getting into the city of Valetta involved a 3 minute walk through the friendly bus station and the city entrance. It could hardly have been closer! There are some other hotels within the city wall but if we go back we will choose the Phoenicia! Traveller's tip on local attractions Dont get a taxi from the airport jump on a no 8 bus to the bus station 30 seconds from the hotel! Take a harbour cruise from Salema which is very informative. If you go to the cathedral which is a spectacle ensure you go early as queues soon develop. There are no beaches but you can walk along the rocky shore which is very pleasant. Dont miss the church of St Paul of the Shipwrecked found down a tiny street the main street. It is spectacular there are no queues and it is free.
